The sea is calling and I must go: Winter beach adventuring

She loves the serene brutality of the ocean, loves the electric power she felt with each breath of wet, briny air.”

I am a planner at heart but I also love a good adventure, especially if it is frugal(Hello, living on one income with 4 kids!) Off Season at my fave place in the whole world Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes, Deleware is super affordable! 74 bucks and we rent an adorable little cabin smack in the middle of the woods but only minutes away from the beach. Think campfires and salty sea air. Seriously, I can't take how much we love it!

Surprise adventuring is one of my favorite things to do! Our kids did not know we were leaving for the beach until the day before when we told them via Facetime on one of daddy's breaks. I thought they were going to go through the roof with excitement.

The Nature Center at Cape Henlopen State Park

We have been taking our Children to our magical spot by the sea every year since our oldest kiddos were 5 and 6. The ritual of doing our favorite things in a secluded nature setting thick with salty air calls to me if I am away too long.

Now that they are older and we have added two more sweet ones to the bunch, we take an after labor day trip with friends as well as a winter beach trip every year.

Cabins that are simple but clean line a tiny cul-de-sac in the middle of the woods. At night crackling fires dot the whole campground and the thick smell of woodsmoke and ocean fill the air. If you are quiet you can hear the faint sound of the crashing waves only a mile down the trail.

Laughter, smores, Grotto Pizza, campfires, The Great Dune lookout, Sunset on the pier, deer feeding in the open grass at five, Lattes from Dunkin, Icecream from Dairy Queen, and late night Corona with lime are some of the memories I live for.

Do you plan secret adventures? If you don't I challenge you to plan one today! It does not have to cost a ton of money. As moms, we have an amazing blessing to elevate the every day into the extraordinary. We all have the choice to turn the simplest of things into a grand adventure! What adventure are you going to plan this week?

The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.”
